Along with Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, Iowa is one of the 4 major states in the Midwestern United States that form the Corn Belt.

Forty percent of the world's maize (corn) production is produced there. The road network delimits plots of 1 mile on each side perfectly oriented to the North. Each plot is subdivided by agricultural roads in squares of 1/2 mile on each side, adapting to natural elements.
