Abandoned in 1974 when its coal mines closed, Hashima Island, also known as "Gunkanjima" or Battleship Island, was once the most densely populated place on Earth. Its distinctive silhouette resembles the Japanese battleship Tosa. You might recognise the island from the James Bond film "Skyfall," where it inspired Raoul Silva’s lair. Fun fact: Filming did not take place on the island itself due to safety concerns, as the island is now a crumbling ruin with hazardous conditions.
