One of the most memorable scenes of the Star Wars saga was filmed here. The legendary battle between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi – marking Anakin’s shift to the dark side – was set on the volcanic planet Mustafar. This scene is for many the most important one in the second trilogy! To create this setting, a film crew traveled to Mount Etna during a volcanic eruption to capture real footage, before enhancing it with CGI to become Mustafar. Meaning “I Burn” in Greek, Mount Etna is Europe’s biggest active volcano.
