Pléiades Neo and AI application

Illegal dumping detection
0:57
- impacts the environment underground, on the ground and in the air,
- affects human health,
- increases the risk of fire
In order to investigate and intervene at the earliest possible stage, security forces and local authorities alike need rapid and regular diagnostic information on the location, volume and nature of unauthorized dumping, as well as the vulnerability of the affected area, such as the presence of a watercourse or housing.
The 30 cm resolution of Pléiades Neo brings a new level of performance to this platform:
- Detection and localization of waste volumes as small as 2m² with a reliable assessment reaching at 95%.
- Qualification of the type of waste: end-of-life vehicles, construction waste, tires or vegetal waste.
- Reliable detection on a single satellite image for rapid identification of recent events on the ground,
- Archiving of legal evidence
- Historization of all data to track flows and stocks
- Identification of spatio-temporal correlations with building permits and official landfill network

The platform is available on mobile phones to support field operations.
- Locate illegal dumps of any size on a large scale,
- Location on a vector map and contextual information from external layers as proximity to waterways or sensitive sites
- Location on 30cm Pléiades Neo map
- Field archive photos for further AI fine-grained classification
- Collaboration process between stakeholders

- Fight against environmental crime
- Collection of information on the organizers
- Ease of use for field workers
- Reduction of investigation costs
- Prevent illegal dump from growing
- Investigation sooner with contextual information and appropriate team based on waste type
- Monitor the effectiveness of mitigation measures

Disaitek signed on May 27, 2024 the first agreement of the Applications Campus. Since 2024, the CNES and Airbus launched calls for projects that invite proposals for space innovation projects using Pléiades Neo data.
The winners receive access to a set of Pléiades Neo images as well as support from the CNES and Airbus to facilitate the economic development and deployment of the project.
